Field trial in Spain

From October 13 to 16, 2025, field trials on operational wind turbines in Spain were successfully carried out in Spain, at two wind farms owned by EDP Renewables. All partners were present, as well as the staff members from the wind farms. During the field trials, drone inspections were first carried out by partner Alerion, which helped identify the whereabouts of focused inspection and repair. Afterwards, focused inspections were carried out where the Aerones robotic system brought Front’s laser-based inspection system to the wind turbine blades. Finally, Tecnalia’s latest onsite composite repair kit was deployed by the robotic system back to the identified location of the blade for repair.

Although various issues were encountered in the first days, the whole team was able to solve all the issues on the site. As a result, successful robotic inspection and repair trials were achieved, which demonstrated that the integrated Romain system is working properly on wind turbines.
